I woke up this morning full, once again, of the Christmas spirit, yesterdays events having blown over! James woke up and decided that he might not go to work today- I think he had anal glaucoma, haha. Actually, I have no idea why the boy "chucked a sickie" as it were; I know he didn't really sleep well last night so the thought of having to get out of bed at 5am probably made him nauseous. Anyway.... it was my day off today so he and I spent it together.
I decided that I would head to our local shopping mall, Westfield Marion, to do a bit of Christmas shopping and browsing. I had to go to the supermarket to buy some ingredients with which to make some "Christmas snacks" and look for various other assorted things. I somehow convinced James to come with me- a serious error in judgement on my behalf. Poor James, it's really not his fault- I think in general men are not engineered to "browse", certainly not under duress, and I should have known it wasn't a great idea to have him come with me given his short attention span (which he freely admits!) and hatred of malls in general, haha. It wasn't really a recipe for success from the moment go. About an hour into the shopping expedition he did his best to convince me to take him to a movie, but the only movie he was interested in seeing was Jackass 2... needless to say, that particular movie is not on my 'must see' list, and so he gave up on that idea and took to sulking until I bought him an iced latte from Hudsons. It was generally a productive trip though; I managed to get pretty much what I went there to get, and 2 hours later we emerged, bags in hand, to venture home once again.
It's been very hot here off and on. Today felt very warm although I have no idea exactly what temperature it was- we're probably still trying to get properly acclimatised to the summer weather, though, so maybe it wasn't quite as hot as it felt. We also don't have air conditioning so that doesn't help. Once the sun set James asked me to get Ruby and Pandora (our cats) inside. We bring them in every evening around sunset and let them out in the morning. Tonight I convinced him to let them stay outside a little longer as it was still hot and stuffy inside but really pleasant outside with a nice, cool breeze. Poor little things, I thought, I'm not going to shut them in now for them to swelter in our oven! Stupid, stupid me. Pandora ended up on the roof, as she likes to do, and cried and cried about being up there even though she knows how to come down. Ruby went off to visit the neighbours and wasn't seen or heard from for another 2 hours... I hate to say it, but I should've taken the husband's advice. I guess he's right sometimes...
In the middle of the cat adventures I decided, in my infinite wisdom, to make coconut ice (sometimes these random thoughts just come to me). I haven't made it for years and thought I would make it tonight and store it ready for Saturday. Oh my lord, I had icing sugar covering the entire kitchen area, coconut through my hair, pink food colouring all over my hands- and what I didn't consider was that the kitchen was still too hot to make something like that, it just wasn't setting the way it was supposed to. Urgghhh. What a nightmare. I finished it and shoved it in the fridge, and then did what one should do having made an incredible mess such as this: I blogged about it.
*sigh*
Better get to cleaning, huh?
