Another busy couple of weeks has prevented me from making another blog entry, but I've finally found some time to sit and recount all our recent events...
James has had his shift schedule changed at work which meant he did 2 weeks in a row of day shifts instead of his usual afternoon-day-night-afternoon-day 5 weekly schedule- he got all thrown out of whack and was a bit annoyed, but the reason for it was so he could begin some of his actual trade school classes during the second week, which were happening at his worksite. I think he's pleased that "school" has finally begun for him, he's really been feeling the lack of mental stimulation at work lately so it's given him something to focus on. Actually, we did have a chat about James taking a class somewhere, either a short term or long term one, in something he's really keen to learn about (like nutrition), which would keep him intellectually satiated... and then he could go to work and not worry so much about being bored! But at the moment I think he's feeling pretty content with work and is having some fun there with his workmates, so that's keeping him occupied at least until next year!
My boss has been out of our worksite the last couple of weeks, so I've been doing her job- which basically involves me doing what I've been doing already, just much more paperwork, conflict management and delegation of tasks- all three of which I'm experienced in but don't necessarily enjoy (except for the delegation part!! hehe). So everything at work has run pretty smoothly which has been good, although our residents keep coming down with colds/viruses, passing them backwards and forwards to each other- and unfortunately one of them managed to pass it on to me... blerk... so I've been sick basically since last Friday. It's the second time I've been sick in a relatively short space of time which doesn't usually happen, but I think I got it again because I'm run down at the moment. So I have 4 more shifts as the "boss" then I return to my lowly existence as night shifter :-)
Last Friday was James' birthday, and boy, was he excited! He was like a little boy running around hysterically, and was over the moon about his birthday presents (I got him a new mp3 player and a dart board, and he also got a few gift vouchers and lots of beer and a number of other gifts from our very generous friends and family). On Friday night he had just come off of a week of nights so we had dinner with Carla after I babysat Little James- then he went straight home to bed!! We had a party at our place on Saturday night, I think about 25 of our friends came along to celebrate and drink... much fun was had by all, especially the birthday boy!! He had invited a few people from work, a couple of whom I had only met once before, so it was great to see them again. James works with some great people, and we're looking forward to hanging out with them again soon!! So we had lots of food, beer and wine, and I think the last of the guests left at about 2 am! I had to get up for work at 7.15am on Sunday, and then Sunday night we had some family here for dinner along with Emily and Matt who were SOOO helpful with getting things ready- I was really tired and initially not feeling ready for another onslaught of people- but after their cajoling and all their assistance with shopping and cooking, I felt much more in the party spirit! So our weekend was absolutely packed with celebrations, we had a brilliant time and are soon looking forward to more parties with our Thanksgiving party just around the corner, then an early Christmas party before we leave for the States... then more birthday parties when we get home! Any excuse to celebrate... :-)
A lot of people thought it was James' 30th, so they were promptly informed by James that- no, that was next year, feel free to being me another present then! Haha.
Unfortunately the batteries on our digital camera were flat on Saturday night so not many pictures were taken- when we replace them, I'll post some photos of the night if they turned out ok.
So I think that's about it for now. I'm not working today, I specifically took the day off because I had already made a commitment to babysit but was feeling revolting at work yesterday evening and let Carla know that I probably shouldn't look after James while I was feeling so sick!! She was very understanding, but I still felt very bad because it meant that she couldn't go to work, but I'm sure she'd be less thrilled if I passed on my bug to Little James. Now it means I have the whole day off (after spending 2 hours this morning at the doctors surgery to get a script for antibiotics!) and I'm planning on getting some rest. Big James has gone to work... but he did mention that he wanted to do a blog entry on his recent encounter with a Magpie, so perhaps he'll be the next one to write :-)
