I had my 37 week midwifery appointment today, so I thought I would write a quick update given that there's not too long to go before the baby girl arrives!
Basically, everything is still progressing normally which is a relief. The only thing of particular note is that the midwife checked the positioning of the baby and determined that she's really not lying in an optimal position for labour- her head's fully engaged, but she's got her spine right up against my bladder and right side of my tummy with her bottom right under the right side of my rib cage (can you picture this?! She's pretty much looking towards my left side). She should be basically in the middle of my tummy but she's not (very common apparently, so I'm not special :) ) Anyway, the midwife has strongly suggested that I do 15 minutes of these certain exercises per day for the next week to try to get her to move across, and if that fails to move her I'll have to do 2 lots of 15 minutes per day until I go into labour. I demonstrated these particular exercises to James when I got home who ended up in fits of laughter so needless to say I'll probably avoid doing them around him! I'm not overly sure what happens if I go into labour with her still positioned badly, but from what the midwife said it's not too big of a deal, just not preferable.
I'm still feeling very healthy and well, but getting very tired now- and actually have quite a bit of pain where her bottom is under my ribs- it feels very bruised from the inside due to the pressure and her size! When she kicks she kicks across my tummy so I feel it on the left side of my tummy, and she is VERY strong so the kicks and actually most of her movements are starting to hurt too. When I go to bed at night she usually happens to get the hiccups which last for AGES, and sleeping is a bit of a problem because every time I want to turn over I wake up because I just can't turn properly in my sleep due to my HUGENESS :) Haha, speaking of the hiccups, she has them right now... I've finished packing my bags for the hospital and the nursery is all but done, all of my washing of baby items is now complete and I think we're pretty much ready to go... how SCARY!
Sorry for possibly too much information, just thought some of you might be interested!
I finished my last shifts at work last Sunday night which was a relief, although it has been strange not having to go in this week. My sleeping is still all out of whack due to work, and I probably haven't been getting quite as much rest as I should be during the day, but it's been good to just do what I want to do and be able to sit and rest when I like.
James is doing fine- he's going to organise the baby car seat tomorrow night and have it installed- and once that's done there are a few more things he wants to get for the baby. I think he's getting excited now :) He wants me to go to his work's Christmas function with him which I think is sometime around the 15th of December... but I did say that I probably wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the baby quite yet since she'll be less than a month old (accounting for the fact that she won't arrive right on her due date!) I told him he should go- but maybe count me out for now :)
Ok, update complete. Will keep you posted on any new developments!
