Lilypie 1st Birthday Ticker

Thursday, 18 October 2007

I'm really sorry for my 6-week blog hiatus- I have found it really difficult to spend time here just sitting and typing. To be really honest, it kind of hurts my tummy to sit on this semi-uncomfortable chair and bend over the computer keyboard. The baby doesn't like to be squashed like that and gives my ribs a hard time! Anyway, for whatever reason, this post is obviously long overdue so I'll do my best to update things in a speedy fashion!

The first event that I neglected to blog about was James' birthday- the big 3-0! He had ummed and ahhed about what he wanted to do so eventually our friend Lynn and I took matters into our own hands and booked a little holiday house down in Victor Harbor for a couple of nights on his birthday weekend for both of us couples plus another couple of friends. We all had a great time, it was really nice to get away for the weekend, plus James and I realised that it was probably the last time we'd be able to do that before the arrival of junior Hofmann so we made the most of it! We all went out on the Saturday morning and played mini-golf down by the Granite Island Causeway which was hilarious (a special golf-clap to Lynn who put in an extra special effort there :-) ) He was thoroughly spoiled with presents, and got to do all the things he loves (ie, drink beer with mates, muck around and sleep in) so it was a very enjoyable weekend! Actually, that weekend feels like forever ago- his birthday was only on September 15th... I'd love to post some pictures of the weekend, but alas, this stupid dial-up connection won't let me- but don't get me started on that again!!

Since then we've been total home-bodies, trying to save money for the baby and get things organised around here so we've not done too much- finally had a few friends and family around to the house for bbq's and lunches which was also pretty overdue. It's been a big change for us really, this whole year we really haven't done too much socialising at our house- last year there seemed to be something on all the time where we were having groups of people around- and this year has almost been the opposite! Nothing too much has changed with us really, but maybe we've just had less time to plan and socialise this year (not to mention less money to do it all!) No doubt our priorities have changed around a little to accommodate the bubs (27 days to go!!)

What else? Oh my God, I just put a bought lasagna in the oven and went to check on it- and hadn't removed the outer plastic tub it was in so the plastic has melted everywhere...

Urgghhh. I thought I could smell something weird.

Anyway... so I'm now 36 weeks, and am now having my midwifery appointments every week until she's born- which could be anything between 2 and 6 weeks away. All of the check-up's and tests have been fine, and the midwives are really pleased with how everything is progressing. I also found out that since my 16 week check up I've only put on 10 kilograms which is also right on target- which perhaps I don't need to blog about, but it just so happens that I'm pretty happy with that given my propensity to weight gain, not to mention all the greasy food that helped me so much in my early days of morning sickness!! So basically most of my weight gain is baby- so I'm hoping that once I've had her it will just go away. Yeah right :-)

My friend Lynn threw me a baby shower last Saturday which was absolutely wonderful of her- I had a brilliant time and she went to a lot of trouble for it! So many of my girlfriends came, and it was so great to see them all- it had been quite some time since I'd seen some of them. Of course, the baby was well and truly spoiled- I was completely overwhelmed with all the girls' generosity. I am so lucky to have the friends I have. I took photographs of all of the presents we received just so I can remember- and Lynn took photos of me and of all the girls there (one notable absence though- any photos of her! Very sneaky...) but once again, can't show them to you...

James has been fine, just cruising on really. He's been going through another stage of being a bit unhappy with his job but I think he's just really ready for a holiday. Obviously he'll take some time off once the baby's born but his bigger break will be at Christmas for 2 weeks so he just has to hang in there for the time being :-)

I'm sure there are some other things that I've neglected to write about, but will post this for now so at least there's something recent to read- and promise I'll blog again very soon!
